Disney Infinity 2.0 brings the Marvel superheroes into the monumentally successful Disney Infinity stable.
Disney Infinity is the gaming and merchandise sensation that see's your favourite Disney characters turn from funky figurines into characters on the screen. The idea is that you buy figurines from Disney franchises them and stand them on the USB Infinity Base to open up new characters and levels in the game. As it's a Disney product there was already an incredible variety in the characters available, but that potential is even bigger than you might think as evidenced with the 2.0 update to Infinity. Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009 as the comic book giant was just getting rolling on it's shared film universe. That means that Disney has the rights to all of the film versions of famous Marvel characters we've seen up to now on the silver screen.
The game itself is a pretty fun if uninspired romp that's really made by the wide variety of characters you can play as and encounter. Broadly speaking it's an Action Adventure game where you roam around open world maps and bash enemies from the many Disney franchises, collecting tokens and completing simple tasks. It's obviously a game designed for the younger crowd so don't expect anything too punishing or complex in the way of gameplay.
This demo lets you play through the opening stages of the Guardians of the Galaxy story as well as opening sections of the Avengers story and the Spider-Man story. All three are fun romps in themselves and give you a really good idea of what to expect from the full game but they come to an end quickly. The good news is that with the Infinity Base and any of the figurines you'll be able to unlock more of the story and continue playing.
If you or your kids are into Marvel then this is a great addition to the series. The figurines and the USB Infinity Base do come at a premium but the figurines are well made and once you've got the Infinity Base you can use it for all of the different characters.
